Protecting the environment from synthetic substances

Synthetic Materials

The Horst Brandstätter Group is committed to the responsible use of plastics and continuously explores opportunities to incorporate alternative materials, such as recycled materials and renewable resources, with the aim of further closing material loops. All production processes are designed to avoid waste wherever possible and to return materials to the production cycle. In addition, we sell plastic materials that are then reused as input materials for other products. In addition to exploring alternative materials and using resources efficiently, we also offer options for returning products at the end of their life cycle.

Integration of Selected Renewable and Alternative Materials

The products of our business units are made from high-quality plastics. In addition, we are constantly looking for and testing new materials - including those made from renewable raw materials, which are already used in some articles. Many alternative raw materials are also used. So-called recyclates are obtained from discarded refrigerators, among other things, and are used by the PLAYMOBIL business unit. In this way, we are continuously expanding the proportion of recycling in our product range. It goes without saying that our products are produced in the usual quality and that no compromises are made in terms of safety.

We are already succeeding in designing all production processes in such a way that virtually no waste is produced. We recycle material and sell plastics that are incorporated into other products.

MATERIAL CYCLE

Our aim is to support the return of our products to existing recycling and material recovery systems and thereby contribute to a circular economy. When developing our products and packaging, we take requirements relating to recyclability and material separation into account. Across all business areas, the Horst Brandstätter Group considers aspects of recyclability and durability. The high quality and resulting long service life of our products help to avoid unnecessary waste and emissions.

PACKAGING

Optimizing the recyclability of our packaging is an important priority for us. At PLAYMOBIL, all shipping and sales packaging is made of almost 100% from recycled cardboard. Wherever possible, we avoid unnecessary packaging. We are currently revising our entire packaging concept in ongoing projects. Further optimization of packaging sizes will have a positive impact on the emissions balance, both at our company and in our value chain. We expect this to create opportunities for savings in energy and material consumption, provide additional warehouse capacity, reduce consumer waste, and increase transport efficiency.

PLASTIC FILMS (PCR) AND PAPER

We also optimize the use of materials in the area of plastic film and, wherever possible, dispense with unnecessary material. Film pouches have already been converted to post-consumer recycled film, which is made from recycled plastics - i.e., packaging that has already been used by consumers and fed into the recycling loop. When evaluating the material used, we take into account the entire life cycle assessment of a specific product. This also applies to the question of whether plastic films or paper are used. We want to include all parameters in the decision - such as the impact on the environment, recyclability, functionality or weight.
